Everything You Need to Know About Lens Filters

Lens filters are some of the most common and often misunderstood photo accessories out there, but they can be tremendously useful for a wide variety of applications. This excellent video tutorial will introduce you to the various types of lens filters, their purposes, and how to use them to take greater control over your images.

Coming to you from Karl Taylor, this helpful video tutorial will teach you everything you need to know about lens filters. Lens filters come in a variety of different formats, with the most common being the screw-on, which simply screws into the threads on the front of most lenses (lenses with a bulbous front element — mostly ultra-wide angle options — often do not have these). They are used across a lot of genres, with landscape photographers in particular often leveraging them to improve their photos, simplify their process out in the field, or explore creative avenues that enable images that simply would not be possible without the use of specialized filters. If you have been looking for a way to expand your creativity a bit, a filter is a great way to explore without spending a lot. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Taylor.
