There are a lot of "rules" in photography, meant to codify what makes a good image and how to create one yourself. But for every rule there is out there, there are 100 notable exceptions to it. So, how do you break the rules in a way that produces compelling photos? This excellent video discusses three different ways to go about it.
Coming to you from Mango Street, this great video will show you three different ways to go about breaking the rules in photography to create interesting images. No doubt, the "rules" are there for a reason; most exist not because they were arbitrarily created one day, but because photographers noticed some sort of pattern in what made a successful image. As such, they are not without merit, but certainly, no rule is so hard and fast that it should never be broken. Rather, it is helpful to think of them as heuristic guidelines that can be a good starting point, particularly when you are newer to the craft and still developing your technical skills and personal creative voice. Once you feel confident in your skills, don't be afraid to branch out. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
