Canon Will Likely Announce the EOS R3 on September 14

Canon has scheduled a presentation for September 14, all but confirming widespread rumors that the much-anticipated EOS R3 is about to be unveiled.

One of Japan’s most trusted sources for information, Nokishita, has listed everything that will be announced alongside the R3, including several accessories and two lenses: the RF 100-400mm with a variable aperture that’s yet to be confirmed, and the 16mm f/2.8.

What’s new since these rumors were reported is that Canon's Japanese site now has a dedicated webpage counting down to the “Canon EOS Presentation” which will take place at 7 pm JST (6 am ET) on September 14. “A new era of imaging has begun,” reads the headline.

Last week, photographer Jared Polin released a video showing him handling a preproduction version of the R3 with a representative from Canon carefully standing just out of shot-making sure that no secrets were unveiled. These secrets include the resolution of the sensor, widely thought to be 24 megapixels after a photographer uploaded some images shot on an R3 body that he was testing at the Tokyo Olympics.

Given the global chip shortage, it could yet be some time before the R3 becomes available for general purchase from major retailers.
