How Good Is the DJI Ronin 4D?

DJI's newest offering has pricked up a lot of industry ears, with videographers and filmmakers at the front of the pack. On paper it seems superb, so how does it feel to shoot with. Here's one videographer's review.

The internet (in photography circles at least) is alight with intrigue and discussions over DJI's newest release — a camera and gimbal. The DJI Ronin 4D 4-Axis 6K Cinema Camera is one hell of a piece of kit. The all-in-one camera and gimbal system appears to be aiming at being a holistic solution to videography, with a spec sheet as long as your leg.

The Ronin 4D has a 24.1-megapixel full frame sensor, built-in ND filters, 14 stops of dynamic range, LiDAR range finder and focus module, and ProRes HQ and raw video formats up to 6K at 60 fps, to name a few features. The entire system is also modular, allowing for customization to each shooter's needs.

Everything I have seen so far on the Ronin 4D has been in line with my initial reaction to the announcement on the spec sheet alone. That is, this is an incredible piece of kit and probably the most impressive — and arguably the most surprising — release of the year. What do you make of it?
