Blackmagic Design Releases New Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro

The new and more powerful Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro comes with a larger sensor, lightweight body, and other additional features with the modern videomaker in mind.

Available immediately on the market from the video technology innovator Blackmagic Design, the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro packs a brighter 1,500-nit adjustable HDR touchscreen, built-in ND filters, larger battery, as well as support for an electronic viewfinder. This camera model also includes latest-generation color science, a larger 6,144 x 3,456-pixel Super 35 sensor with 13 stops of dynamic range, dual native ISOs, and EF lens mount. Super 35 is a popular format in the filmmaking industry, which has a 1.5x crop factor compared to full frame cameras.

This model's sensor is designed to reduce thermal noise, which allows for cleaner shadows and high ISOs. You can also get the focus just right at 4K and 6K resolutions, using the 5-inch adjustable LCD screen. This makes it easier to frame and correctly focus, especially in bright sunlight. You can use lenses from other cameras, such as DSLRs, the URSA Mini Pro, or the original Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

Although filled with high-end digital film features, the design of this camera remains comparably small. It is made from lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite and contains a multifunction handgrip with full controls for recording. As noted above, it includes built-in 2-, 4-, and 6-stop ND filters as well as two mini XLR audio inputs and a larger NP-F570 style battery. The two mini XLR connections allow users to record two separate audio tracks using two microphones without the need for an external mixer. The camera records using standard open file formats, removing the necessity of transcoding media and saving time in return. Recording works in industry-standard 10-bit Apple ProRes files in all formats up to 4K or 12-bit Blackmagic RAW in all formats up to 6K.

This camera model, as well as all other Pocket Cinema Camera models, includes access to a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio. The camera is available immediately and can be purchased for $2,495. If you want to read more about the specifications and features, you can do so here.
