Studio Fashion Test

March 28, 2016

Studio fashion test shoot with Ford model Paola. I worked with experienced fashion stylist to organize this fashion shoot in my studio. The background is a hand-painted textured grey muslin. I used extra-large Plume Wafer 200 with Profoto Pro7. I have always liked the effect of a softbox close to model from the side. The lens was the Nikon 85mm PCE tilt/shift using the tilt function to change the plane of focus and limit the amount of sharpness in the image.

Hi Dan, I like this photo and all the details that you share about it. I just wonder why you decided to make the hands so much out of focus?

I was seeking to highlight the face and oversized bow on dress. I selected the 85mm PCE for the reason to reduce the zone of focus in a dramatic fashion. I additionally shot the same model/wardrobe with the Zeiss 85mm Otus with good results, but I selected this one as my favorite of the portrait length crop. I have other full-length shots from this test shoot posted on my website.
