After racing up the Upper Yosemite Falls hike as quickly as possible to catch the sunset my wife and I were greeted with a grand vista, but with heavy cloud cover and pale fading light, rather than the famous orange glow of a Yosemite sunset. With time marching on and the sky darkening by the minute we could not make it to the top of the trail in time, so we stopped of at Columbia point to take a few exposures before turning back and fumbling down the switchbacks in the dark. The view was stunning none the less and gave for an interesting atmospheric shot, if not the one that I was initially hoping for. I managed to get a horizontal composition, a panorama and this vertical composition, which was shot with a 1-stop bracket exposure, as I did not have an ND grad with me and knew that I wanted to achieve a darkened sky to enhance the mood a little in the final image.
