I took this self portrait to demonstrate that often/usually you can get quite close to photograph hummingbirds. So many people just don't get close enough. This photo was taken with a 100mm macro lens and high speed flash. The camera was approximately a foot and a half from the bird, and the flash heads just as close. It was probably shot at F22, sync speed. My face was about 2 stops underexposed, so I had to pull up shadows quite a bit.
