We decided to spent our vacations on the small island of La Palma. Well, small. 47 km long, 28 km wide. And in its center a gigantic caldera, the Caldera de Taburiente. This volcanic island is a natural wonder itself and a paradise for photographers.

A long and winding road leads up to the peak where the largest european observatory is located. This is of course no coincidence. The climatic conditions are near to perfect and local laws (e.g. no flyovers) protect this area as a dark sky reserve.

This location is absolutely unbelievable. Beside the stars you can capture bizarre rock formations, the infinity of the sea and rather frequently the ocean of clouds covering the caldera. Truely spectacular.
