Abstract Dahlia by Ruth Carll

Abstract Dahlia

This is an abstract dahlia. I was just looking for the interplay of light and dark more than a 'floral' shot. As an abstract style photographer, I am always looking for the line, color and shape 'inside' the subject.

This shot was taken in shade with a beam of sunlight on the flower - a situation that always makes me stop for a second look! Back home, I tinkered with the shadows but less than you might think. Also, I like this in black and white for the abstract nature of the shot - it keeps the viewer from trying to see a flower image (I hope anyway!).

I like those dramatic "slashes" here, Ruth. A very dynamic image - curious, when you think of the subject. A fine image all round. Beautifully composed, as ever from you.
