5 Tips to Improve Your Portraits

Portraiture is a challenging genre that requires sharp skills with the camera, in lighting, post-processing, and your ability to work with and pose a subject. If you have been feeling a little unsure of your work lately and need something to get you back on track, check out this great video tutorial that will give you five helpful tips to improve your portraits.

Coming to you from Gavin Hoey with Adorama TV, this awesome video will show you five great tips to improve your portraits. For sure, one that I think beginners most often overlook is the importance of a fill light. If you are working outside, depending where the sun is in the sky relative to your subject, it can cause deep shadows under your subject's eyes that make them look fatigued and are just unflattering. It does not take much to fix this, however; you do not even need a dedicated light — a simple five-in-one reflector will often do the trick. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Hoey.
